Take part in bringing

a brand-new choral work to life

with a Maine-based composer!

How it works:

Songs From Here composer, Erica Ball, will be writing a new work for SATB choir using a text by a Maine poet. This new work will be suitable for high school choirs and intermediate community choirs and will be finished by February 2026 to allow for choirs to begin rehearsal in time for performances on their spring 2026 concerts.

Through a series of conversations with the composer, singers will gain an appreciation for the composition process as they receive an insider view. Choir directors will be provided with bite-size compositional activities for their singers to undertake as a way to introduce composition, as well as short videos from SFH soprano, Sarah Tuttle, that introduce and reinforce common vocal techniques and concepts.

What’s included:

9 classroom presentations (mix of Zoom and pre-recorded):

  • 5 Composer presentations

  • 4 Singer presentations

1 Rehearsal attendance either virtually or in-person

1 Pre-recorded remarks or attendance at the concert by the composer
